For a Stuffy Nose
Seasonal allergies may cause sinus congestion as pollen, pet dander and certain fragrances can become trapped in the sinuses, making them feel blocked and painful.
Eucalyptus oil is a powerful disinfectant and contains anti-inflammatory agents.
To reduce the congestion you may try the following:
Steam Inhalation
Boil a small pot of water. Once the water reaches it boiling point, remove from stove (or electric kettle) and pour into a bowl.
Add 5-7 drops of Eucalyptus oil into the bowl.
Using a large bath towel, lean over the bowl and cover your head - trapping in the vapor.
Inhale for about 10 minutes or until the water becomes cool.
Dilution
Add 12 drops of the oil to each fluid ounce of carrier oil like sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil or avocado oil.
In Bath
Pour 1 cup of Epsom Salt into a clean mixing bowl.
Add 8-10 drops of Eucalyptus oil.
Mix thoroughly.
Depending on the size of the bath tub, use between ¼ to ½ cup of this salt blend per bath.
Please be advised that Eucalyptus oil in it’s purest form should not be applied directly to the skin as it may cause burn.
For a Bothersome Cough
Peppermint oil is a natural care products for respiratory conditions as Menthol counts for more than 50% of the peppermint leaf extract. Menthol can help to relax the muscles of the windpipe, known as the bronchial muscles and reduce phlegm.
To reduce the cough you may try the following:
Vaporizer or humidifier
Place vaporizer (or humidifier) in your room at night.
Add 25-30 drops of peppermint oil and enjoy it as it disperses throughout the room.
Chest Rub for Cough
1/4 cup Coconut oil
1/4 cup Shea butter
25 drops of Peppermint oil
For Itchy/Watery Eyes
High levels of pollen, mold, dust, and other irritants are the culprits of watery, itchy eyes.
Chamomile can be very soothing for irritated eyes.
To reduce eye irritation you may do the following:
Eye Pads
Add 1 teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers or a chamomile teabag to 1 cup of boiled water.
Steep for 5 minutes
Strain dried chamomile flowers and let the tea cool completely.
Pour the cooled tea onto a cotton pad and apply it around your eyes.
